Portobello-based Mairi Campbell is to play an intimate house concert in Portobello on Saturday, 24th October in aid of the local charity Wicked World Tours.
The Portobello charity aims to fund adventurous travel for disabled people, particularly people with the nervous system disease Friedreich’s Ataxia.
Mairi Campbell said: “I’m really happy to support the great work folk such as Wicked World Tours are doing in this community.
“I’ve always enjoyed travelling, getting on the road, seeing new places. At one point my aunt offered to pay for an air ticket for me to travel and study music abroad. That experience had a powerful and lasting impact on me. Wicked World Tours is having a similar impact by helping travellers fund their life-changing adventures.”
Sheila MacKay, trustee of Wicked World Tours, said: “We are delighted that Mairi is able to do a fundraiser for WWT – we’re so lucky to have such a gifted and generous musician living near us in Portobello.
“Mairi’s music and performance style are exciting and challenge preconceived boundaries – so she’s a good fit with our wee charity.”
Mairi will play songs from her recent solo albums as well as perform her unique soundings and improvisations. Mairi’s song Portobello Sands, which tells the story of a mother keenly awaiting the return of her child, will undoubtedly be on the set list.
Concert numbers are limited to 30 – and there are just a few spaces left, so people are encouraged to book their place now to avoid disappointment.
An evening with Mairi Campbell is on Saturday, 24th October at 7.30pm at a house on the beachfront overlooking Portobello Sands. Tickets are £25 per person and concessions are available thanks to generous donations.
