National treasure Mairi Campbell is back in Stornoway to celebrate Burns Night with her theatre show Auld Lang Syne, plus a Scots songs workshop earlier in the day.

Featuring live music, animation and movement, the show Auld Lang Syne sees Mairi tell stories of her adventures with Scotland’s most famous song – singing for US President Bill Clinton, a starring role in Sex and the City and a reinterpretation of the Robert Burns classic that changed her life.

In the morning, Mairi will also be running a workshop for mixed voices at An Lanntair. Join her to learn Scots songs including songs by Robert Burns. Sheet music of the songs is available during the workshop and all voices welcome.

The show and the workshop will be delivered with Mairi’s trademark wit, gentle charm and unparalleled musical ability. With Auld Lang Syne, the audience can expect a funny and heartfelt show resonates with universal truths.

Mairi said: “I’m looking forward to being back in Stornaway. I was over last month working on Soil and Soul the theatre production so it’s great to back again and I’m so pleased to have this opportunity to bring the show here.  I love playing it and I the audience responses have been fantastic.

“I’m also looking forward to sharing the Scots song workshop, focussing on Burns’s songs. The melodies Burns chose his lyrics for were often fiddle tunes or airs and could be hard to sing, but we’ll be taking two or three of his 600 songs and going for it!”

Auld Lang Syne premiered at Edinburgh Festival Fringe at Scottish Storytelling Centre throughout August 2018 as an exhilarating and original sequel to 5-star Pulse (“Exquisite blend of skill, art, vitality and expression…” Musical Theatre Review).

Presented by Greengold Projects and the Authentic Artist Collective. Auld Lang Syne is co-devised and directed by Kath Burlinson of the Authentic Artist Collective.
